Illiterate…? Not really…

You have a powerful machine between your ears. One could say that what you have between your ears is much more powerful than any computer, scientists confirm that. But how do you feed your mind in the first place? Your mind is the greatest gift you have received, so think carefully how you feed your mind…

According to statistics, 85% of American households don’t buy a single non-fiction book in a year…. Not a single one! To make it even more shocking, those who do buy a non-fiction book don’t read it!

At the same time, Americans spend $30 billion(!) a year on films, with a tv being turned on in an average household for 6 hours and 45 minutes a day! And very often they don’t even watch it, it’s just turned on. Some people often say “I just want to see what’s on.” That’s even worse, because it’s playing in the background and it’s sending information unconsciously into your mind without you realising it.

I’m not saying that television is bad. There are good things on television from time to time, but you need to be selective about what you watch, you need to guard access to your mind and only let good things in.

Make your Home Eco-Friendly – Light

LEDsClimate change affects us all. There’s not much we can do on a massive scale, but there’s a lot we can do in our close environment. Our home is a place where we spend most of our life. So why not invest a bit of time and make lighting in your home Eco-friendly?

This is the first post in a series on making your home Eco-Friendly. I’ll start with Light.

Energy saving lamps became quite a standard in our homes, but do you make the most out of them? Do you use them everywhere in your home? Energy saving lamps have pretty much became a standard, but there is something new. An exciting discovery has been made in the recent years with LEDs – Light Emiting Diodes. They appeared long time ago, in the 1960s, but they never became popular as sources of lighting. As researchers worked on the LEDs, they made progress by finding a way to make them white and improving their brightness. LED have been around for a long time, but only recently white light became a solution.

The Dark side of Volkswagen

Greenpeace VolkswagenI have just read an article that I want to share with you, an article about Volkswagen (car manufacturer) and what they do to keep us addicted to oil (well, actually not us, but you, I’m off this wagon…).

Our addiction oil, our demand for oil, is what drives big corporations like Shell and BP to drill into our beautiful planet, into the waters and melting Arctic. Almost 70% of our oil is used in transport, according to James Sadri from Greenpeace.

We could do something for our planet by setting some car efficiency targets, unfortunately there are some obstacles in our way, like Volkswagen. Volkswagen publicly says that they want to be “the world’s most eco-friendly car maker”, but Volkswagen as the biggest european car maker spends millions lobbying against car efficiency standards and emission targets. They are the most influential member of ACEA – car lobby group trying to block climate laws.

Truth about chocolate

ChocolateDid you know that chocolate is the most craved food by women? Number one according to researches!

Also, according to researches, an average American consumes about 5 kilograms(!) of chocolate per year! An average British consumes about 8 kilograms(!) of chocolate per year! The numbers are astonishing.

The key ingredient in chocolate is cocoa, obviously. Unfortunately, when cocoa beans are heated, chemicalised and processed in the process of creating chocolate, they loose all their key factors like brain nutrition. Often after the beans have been processes into chocolate, certain bad properties appear, like cravings, addictions and allergies. It gets even worse with milk chocolate, it contains powdered milk which has harmful antioxidant-blocking properties as well as pesticides and artificial hormones…

Peace is the Way

Peace is the way by Deepak ChopraToday, I would like to share with you a book I have been reading lately. “Peace is the way” by Deepak Chopra.

In his book, Deepak Chopra, looks at many aspects of peace, peace is not just the lack of wars around the globe but peace between people as well. Peace begins with us, it begins with our thoughts, it starts inside not outside.

As Muhammad Ali puts it:

” Deepak Chopra brings the idea of peace and the power it has over conflict, hatred, and despair into focus. He offers a clear pathway to make this world a better place for us all. ”

Dark Chocolate

dark chocolateIt’s one of the SuperFoods. It’s hard to believe that something that sweet is a SuperFood, but it is.

Bear in mind, we’re talking about Dark Chocolate here, so Milk Chocolate doesn’t count. The good news is that now you can eat dark chocolate without feeling guilty, to some extent of course. I’m not saying you can eat as much dark chocolate as you want. Keep dark chocolate consumption to about 100 calories per day, and eat dark chocolate only.

Why only 100 calories, you may say? Because dark chocolate is high in calories. For wealth, you should stick to dark chocolate – milk chocolate is not a SuperFood and white chocolate is not really a chocolate. Other chocolates are not SuperFoods because of the presence of milk in them.

“Who killed the electric car?”

Who killed the electric car filmChris Paine’s documentary film is a remarkable achievement in the history of the film industry.

A documentary that investigates the birth and the death of a remarkable electric car and a remarkable beginning of a new era in motor industry, a story of a car that could change the entire world… However it didn’t thanks to some big corporation…

I guess many people don’t watch the films without “stars” in them. How about Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, and Martin Sheen? Would you watch it now?

If you enjoy good movie, this is a must-see. I loved the film and some things shifted in me after having watched the film that I have decided that if I buy another car in the future, it is going to be an electric car that is good to the environment.

It was back in 1996 when electric cars appeared all over California. They were fast and quiet, and produced no emissions. How come most of us have never heard of EV-1?
